Kindergarten Readiness Resources

INTRODUCTION

Positive partnerships among home, school and the community promote the development of lifelong learning.  Early childhood education establishes a foundation for learning based upon a nurturing environment that is safe and secure.  Of utmost importance is the fostering of optimal growth of all children academically, socially, physically and emotionally while addressing the individual needs of students and families within an the community.

Each month Claysburg-Kimmel Elementary will be adding new resources from Pennsylvania Promise for Children and other resources.  These resources are intended to provide parents/guardians with simple activities that will help their child develop some of the skills necessary for success in kindergarten.  These activities work most effectively when parents/guardians and children work and talk together.  Remember to praise and encourage your child and above all HAVE FUN!

LEARNING STANDARDS DEVELOPMENT

Pennsylvania’s Learning Standards for Early Childhood provide the framework for learning.  They provide the foundational information for what children should be able to know and do.  These learning standards build on information learned previously, creating a continuum of learning that assures consistent and linked learning that begins in infancy, increasing in complexity as it extends through graduation.

The 2014 Infant, Toddler and Pre-Kindergarten Standards ensure appropriate inclusion for all early care and education programming.  The 2014 Pre-Kindergarten standards mirror the standards found on the Standards Aligned System (SAS) in the learning domains of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Social and Emotional Development.
